Chapter 29 - The Train Beneath the CityVictor ran.

Noah froze beside the platform edge.

The train emerged without headlights.

Victor reached the boy and threw both of them behind a concrete pillar.

The train passed inches away.

Its windows were covered.

Its cars carried the silver fox seal.

Marcus’s team entered the station from both stairways.

The train continued into the eastern tunnel.

Noah struggled in Victor’s arms.

“You ruined it!”

“It was going to kill you.”

“Grandfather said it would take me home.”

Victor held his shoulders.

“August does not have a home. He has rooms where he keeps people.”

Noah looked at the abandoned key.

A mechanical arm extended from the wall and pulled it into a slot.

The station screen activated.

ACCESS KEY ONE CONFIRMED.

Victor realized the exchange had never required him to hand the key to August.

He only needed to bring it within reach of the station.

“Where is the second key?” Marcus asked.

Victor looked at Noah.

The silver fox around his neck was not a key.

It was a transmitter.

Noah touched it.

A map appeared on the station screen.

Two gold lights blinked.

One at Station Orchard.

The other at the hospital.

Ethan.

August’s voice returned.

“Two brothers. Two keys. One inheritance.”

The eastern tunnel gates opened.

The train reversed.

This time, its destination sign illuminated.

NORTHBRIDGE.

Noah stared at it.

“Grandfather is there.”

Victor stood.

“Then you are coming with me.”

Noah shook his head.

“You only want Ethan.”

Victor extended his hand.

“I came here alone for you.”

The boy looked at it for a long time.

Then he took it.

Behind them, the station announced:

“Both heirs recognized.”

A third light appeared on the map.

May you like

It blinked beneath the Hale mansion.

ORCHARD CORE AWAKENING.
