Chapter 8: Rich in Hugs

Two weeks later, the DNA results confirmed the truth.
Emma Porter was Lily Morgan.
The Morgan family was shaken. The hospital staff who had looked down on Daniel suddenly spoke to him with respect. The cashier was suspended, and the finance manager was forced to apologize.
But Daniel only had one question.
“Is anyone going to take Emma away from me?”
Samuel Morgan, Emma’s biological grandfather, stood in front of him.
He was a powerful man, but his voice trembled.
“I lost my daughter because I failed to protect her,” Samuel said. “I will not lose my granddaughter by stealing the only father she has ever known.”
Then Samuel bowed to Daniel.
“Thank you for raising her.”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
Victoria was investigated for hiding records and manipulating the Morgan family fund. Celeste later came to Emma’s hospital room to apologize.
Emma looked at her and asked, “Are you the one who said my daddy was poor?”
Celeste lowered her head.
“Yes. I was wrong.”
Emma thought for a moment.
“My daddy is only poor in money,” she said. “He is rich in hugs.”
Daniel laughed.
Celeste cried.
One month later, Emma left the hospital. She had a grandfather, an uncle, and an old name waiting for her.
But she still held Daniel’s hand.
One year later, Daniel worked at the hospital, helping families who could not afford care. On his desk, he kept three things: Emma’s drawing of him as a hero, the silver bracelet, and the torn hospital bill.
Whenever someone asked why he kept it, Daniel smiled.
“Because sometimes, what people tear apart is exactly what reveals the truth.”
That afternoon, Emma ran into his office with a school paper.
“My teacher asked us to write about our hero,” she said.
Daniel looked down.
The first line read:
My hero never flew in the sky. He just never let go of my hand.
Daniel hugged her tightly.

And for the first time in years, the torn pieces of his life finally felt whole again.
THE END.
