Chapter 7 - The Leaked Appointment

On the morning of the appointment, Madison noticed a black car following her.
She changed lanes twice.
The car remained behind her.
At the next traffic light, she recognized Derek.
Madison called Rachel through her car’s speaker.
“He’s following me.”
“Do not go home,” Rachel said. “Drive directly to the clinic. I’m contacting the officers.”
Madison reached the clinic parking lot and hurried inside.
Receptionist Nora locked the front entrance after her.
Derek arrived less than a minute later.
He pounded on the glass door, demanding to be admitted.
“He cannot come inside,” Elena told the receptionist.
Derek held up a folder.
“I only need her signature.”
Madison recognized the documents through the glass.
They were property-transfer forms.
Derek called her phone repeatedly. She did not answer.
Then Patricia called the clinic, claiming there was a family emergency. Nora refused to provide information.
A few minutes later, another patient exited through the front entrance.
Derek caught the door before it closed.
He entered the lobby and moved quickly toward Madison.
“Sign the papers,” he said.
“You need to leave.”
“You’ve caused enough damage.”
Elena stepped between them.
“The police are on their way.”
Derek laughed.
“My wife is confused. Check her file.”
“We already corrected the false information.”
His confidence vanished for half a second.
Madison turned toward the examination hallway.
Derek followed her.
Nora raised her phone and began recording.
Above them, the clinic’s security cameras captured every step.

When Derek blocked Madison from reaching the rear exit, she understood that he had not come to negotiate.
He had come to silence her before the investigators arrived.
