Chapter 4 - The Woman in Blue

The next day, Madison visited the clinic without telling Derek.

She had come directly from teaching an aquatic therapy class at a community center, wearing a light-blue swimsuit beneath a white shirt and gray stockings.

The clinic appeared ordinary. White walls, blue furniture, medical cabinets, and quiet music created an atmosphere of safety.

Nurse Elena Ruiz met Madison near the examination room.

The moment Madison showed her identification, Elena’s expression changed.

“We have been trying to reach you privately,” Elena said.

She explained that Derek had attended several appointments claiming to represent Madison. Patricia had accompanied him twice.

They had requested letters describing Madison as emotionally unstable after an unsuccessful fertility procedure.

“But I never had a fertility procedure,” Madison said.

Elena nodded.

“That is why one of our physicians refused to sign anything.”

The clinic had recently discovered altered records in its computer system. Someone had added false notes suggesting Madison suffered from memory loss, panic episodes, and an inability to manage financial decisions.

Elena believed a former administrative employee had accepted money from Patricia.

Madison felt the room tilt.

“They’re building a case against me.”

“To control your accounts?” Elena asked.

“And my house.”

Elena copied the authentic records and placed them in a sealed envelope. She encouraged Madison to contact the police immediately.

Madison hesitated.

Derek had never seriously harmed her, but he had trained her to fear what would happen if she challenged him.

“He’ll say I’m confused,” Madison whispered. “He’ll use the false records as proof.”

“Then we make sure the truth is documented first.”

Elena introduced Madison to the clinic director, Dr. Simmons. Together, they contacted an attorney and arranged to preserve every security recording, email, billing record, and login history.

Before Madison left, Elena gave her a direct phone number.

“You are not alone,” she said.

It was the first time in years that Madison believed those words.
