Chapter 7 - The Runway Confession

The rain had just ended when Clara reached the private runway.

The white aircraft waited beneath a gray sky, its boarding stairs already open.

Her suitcase rolled through shallow water as she crossed the pavement.

Then she heard Richard behind her.

“Clara, don’t go. I can explain.”

She kept walking.

Sabrina hurried after him in high heels, slipped to her knees, and clung to his sleeve.

“You promised to choose me and the baby!”

Clara stopped.

Not because she was surprised.

Because the words had been captured by three security cameras.

Naomi’s legal team had coordinated with the airport. Every part of the confrontation was being recorded.

“You two said enough last night,” Clara replied.

Richard looked at the briefcase.

His phone began vibrating.

At the same moment, every board member received Elena’s archived files, Clara’s forensic report, the forged signatures, the false medical plan, and the recording from the previous evening.

The calls started immediately.

First came the company’s general counsel.

Then internal audit.

Then Richard’s father, who still held a nonexecutive board seat.

“What have you done?” Richard demanded.

Clara placed one foot on the first stair.

“The evidence reached the board before you arrived.”

A black sedan stopped near the terminal.

Two attorneys stepped out with the chair of the ethics committee.

Richard’s father called again.

This time, Richard answered.

Clara could not hear every word, but she heard enough.

Emergency suspension.

Asset freeze.

Independent investigation.

Immediate surrender of all company devices.

Sabrina released Richard’s sleeve.

He stood alone on the wet runway, staring at the plane as though the world had shifted beneath him.

Clara climbed the stairs.

At the top, she turned once.

Richard looked small from there.

Not powerful.

Not brilliant.

Just caught.

The aircraft door closed.

Only then did Clara allow herself to cry.
