Chapter 7 - The Truth About the Company

After Mara left the dining room, Adrian tried to regain control.

He told the guests that the documents were part of a private disagreement. He demanded that everyone stop recording and instructed hotel security to block the exits.

But the man seated near the windows stood.

His name was Samuel Grant, the chief restructuring officer of Ellison Meridian Holdings.

“You cannot detain the guests,” Samuel said. “And you no longer have authority to represent Vale Meridian Technologies.”

Adrian stared at him.

Samuel distributed copies of the restructuring notice to the board members present.

The company had violated the terms of its debt extension nine times. Adrian had misused operational funds, concealed executive payments, and submitted inaccurate recovery reports.

Under the signed loan agreement, Ellison Meridian had the right to demand immediate repayment or assume temporary control through a court-approved restructuring.

The restructuring had already been approved that morning.

Adrian was removed as chief executive.

Vivienne’s board position was suspended pending an investigation.

Camille’s consulting contract was terminated immediately.

“What about our shares?” Vivienne demanded.

Samuel answered calmly. “Their value will depend on the company’s recovery. The employees and creditors will be protected first.”

Adrian pushed through the guests and ran after Mara.

He found her outside beneath the restaurant entrance, waiting for her car.

“You planned this.”

“I prepared for it.”

“You tricked me.”

“I never lied about loving you.”

“You hid who you were.”

“I wanted to know how you treated someone you believed had no power.”

Adrian stepped closer, lowering his voice.

“We can fix this. Cancel the restructuring, and I’ll explain everything to my family.”

Mara looked at him sadly.

“You still think this is a negotiation.”

“I’m trying to save us.”

“No. You’re trying to save your position.”

The car arrived.

Before Mara entered, Adrian asked, “Did any of it mean something to you?”

“All of it did,” she said. “That’s why leaving hurts.”

Then she closed the door.

Adrian stood on the pavement holding the envelope that had once contained his future.
