Chapter 15 - The Last Secret Before the War

No one breathed.
The little girl inside the capsule looked no older than ten.
Yet her eyes held a strange calmness.
She pressed one small hand against the glass.
"Brother..."
Her voice echoed through hidden speakers.
Every Harvest soldier instinctively lowered their weapons.
Even Rodrigo stared at the capsule in disbelief.
Jonathan Reed slowly stepped in front of it.
"No one touches her."
Rodrigo smiled.
"So she really exists."
"You spent thirty-five years hiding the final piece."
Jonathan's expression never changed.
"I spent thirty-five years protecting her."
Ethan looked from Jonathan to the little girl.
"I don't understand."
"You said Elijah was my only sibling."
Jonathan nodded.
"He is."
"Then who is she?"
The old man took a slow breath.
"She isn't your sister."
"She isn't your daughter."
"She isn't your blood."
"Then why did she call me brother?"
Jonathan answered quietly.
"Because that's the only name she's ever known for you."
Silence settled over the chamber.
Mariana stepped closer to the capsule.
The girl's face...
The curve of her smile...
The shape of her eyes...
They reminded her of someone.
But she couldn't remember who.
Laura kept her weapon trained on Rodrigo.
"Explain."
Jonathan looked at Ethan.
"Project Legacy was never about creating heirs."
"It was about protecting witnesses."
"Witnesses to what?" Ethan asked.
Jonathan slowly turned toward the walls of the chamber.
Thousands of photographs still surrounded them.
Generations of faces.
Generations of lives.
"To the truth."
He pointed to the little girl.
"She is the last living witness."
"To everything."
Rodrigo laughed.
"And that's exactly why she has to die."
The chamber exploded into motion.
Rodrigo drew his pistol.
Laura fired first.
The bullet struck Rodrigo's shoulder, spinning him backward.
Harvest soldiers opened fire.
Stone shattered.
Glass rained from the ceiling.
Samuel tackled Ethan behind the heavy oak desk.
"Protect the capsule!"
Jonathan ran toward the control panel beside the glass enclosure.
His fingers flew across a keypad.
A deep mechanical rumble echoed beneath the floor.
The capsule slowly descended into the ground.
Rodrigo shouted through the gunfire.
"Stop it!"
Three Harvest soldiers rushed the platform.
Before they reached it...
Richard Bell stepped from the shadows.
"No further."
Every soldier froze.
Rodrigo looked up in disbelief.
"You?"
Richard calmly stood between the soldiers and the capsule.
"I told you."
"You were fighting for the wrong prize."
Rodrigo's face twisted with rage.
"You betrayed me."
"I never worked for you."
Richard removed the silver ring from his finger and placed it on the platform.
The chamber immediately fell silent.
Every hidden mechanism stopped moving.
Jonathan looked at Richard.
"So..."
"You finally remembered."
Richard smiled sadly.
"I never forgot."
"I was only waiting."
Ethan stared at both men.
"You know each other?"
Jonathan nodded.
"He isn't my enemy."
"He never was."
Rodrigo took a staggering step backward.
"Then everything..."
Richard finished the sentence.
"...was meant to lead you here."
Rodrigo suddenly understood.
He had spent fifteen years chasing the Bell fortune.
Breaking into vaults.
Manipulating Mariana.
Using Harvest.
Searching for the Archive.
Only to discover...
He had been guided.
Every step.
Every clue.
Every victory.
Exactly where Jonathan wanted him.
"You used me," Rodrigo whispered.
Jonathan's eyes were filled with regret.
"I needed someone impatient enough..."
"...to reveal everyone hiding behind Harvest."
Red warning lights suddenly flashed across the chamber.
A computerized voice announced:
External network detected.
Twenty-seven unauthorized facilities connected.
Harvest command structure identified.
Global transmission available.
Laura looked toward Jonathan.
"You can expose them."
Jonathan slowly nodded.
"Yes."
"With one command."
Rodrigo lunged toward the central console.
Ethan intercepted him.
The two men crashed across the stone floor.
Rodrigo swung wildly.
Ethan blocked the punch.
Years of frustration, betrayal, and heartbreak erupted in a single fight.
No audience.
No speeches.
Only two men whose lives had become inseparably intertwined.
Rodrigo reached for the pistol that had slid across the floor.
Mariana got there first.
She picked it up.
Her hands trembled.
Rodrigo looked at her.
"You owe me."
Mariana shook her head.
"I owe him."
She lowered the weapon.
Not at Ethan.
At Rodrigo.
"It's over."
Rodrigo smiled bitterly.
"No."
"It isn't."
He pressed a small remote hidden in his sleeve.
Nothing happened.
He pressed it again.
Still nothing.
Richard quietly opened his hand.
The remote's transmitter chip rested in his palm.
"I removed it..."
"...before you entered the chamber."
Rodrigo's shoulders slumped.
For the first time...
He had no move left.
Outside, distant helicopter blades echoed across Bell Manor.
Laura listened carefully.
"Federal response."
Samuel looked toward Jonathan.
"They're here."
Jonathan nodded.
"They're finally here."
The old man walked to Ethan.
He placed a weathered leather journal into Ethan's hands.
"The story you've been chasing..."
"...is only the first volume."
Ethan looked down.
The cover bore a title he had never seen before.
THE FIRST KEEPER
Jonathan smiled.
"There are twenty-nine more."
Ethan slowly looked up.
"You mean..."
Jonathan nodded.
"Every vault tells only one part of the truth."
"The real Archive..."
"...has never been found."
The chamber doors began opening as rescue teams approached.
Jonathan took one final step backward.
"Your fight for the money is over."
He looked at Ethan...
Then Elijah, who had quietly entered through the secondary tunnel unnoticed during the chaos...
Then Mariana...
Then the little girl whose capsule had disappeared beneath the floor.
"What comes next..."
"...is a fight for history itself."
A loud alarm suddenly interrupted him.
Unknown access detected.
Vault Thirty has been opened.
Everyone in the chamber froze.
Jonathan's face lost all color.
"That's impossible."
Samuel whispered,
"No one knows where Vault Thirty is."
The chamber lights flickered.
A new message appeared across every screen.
THANK YOU FOR FINDING THE FIRST TWENTY-NINE.
SEE YOU AT THE LAST ONE.
Beneath the message...
A live video feed slowly appeared.
A man stood inside a vast underground vault.
His face remained hidden in shadow.
Only his voice could be heard.
Warm.
Calm.
Familiar.
"Hello, Ethan."
"I've been waiting for my sons."
The transmission ended.
Jonathan closed his eyes.
After a long silence, he whispered only three words.
"He found us."
May you like
The chamber fell completely silent.
End of Part One.
