Chapter 16 - THE HEARING

Miriam filed an emergency petition to restore Liam’s original birth record and establish Robert’s paternity legally.

Nathan’s attorneys fought everything.

They claimed the evidence was contaminated.

They attacked Nora’s credibility.

They accused Grace of seeking money.

Then DNA results returned from an independent court laboratory.

Probability Robert Hale was Liam’s biological father:

99.9998 percent.

The courtroom fell silent.

Robert looked at Liam.

Liam looked straight ahead.

The judge ordered Liam’s original birth status restored pending final review.

Nathan left through a side door.

Outside, reporters shouted questions.

“Liam, will you take the Hale name?”

“Liam, will you claim the company?”

“Liam, do you forgive your father?”

He stopped.

Robert expected him to say nothing.

Instead Liam faced the cameras.

“My name is Liam Reed.”

Nora covered her mouth.

“That is the name of the woman who raised me when powerful people tried to make me disappear.”

He looked toward Robert.

“But Robert Hale is my father.”

Robert’s eyes filled.

“I don’t have to erase one family to belong to another.”

The clip spread everywhere.

Public opinion changed overnight.

Not because Liam looked wealthy.

Because he refused to trade one mother for another.

Two days later, Hale Holdings’ board called an emergency meeting.

Nathan Pierce was being challenged as chairman.

Robert received enough shareholder support to remove him.

But Nathan had one final weapon.

He produced a signed statement claiming Evelyn Hale had participated willingly in hiding Liam.

If genuine, it could destroy the credibility of nearly every document they had found.

Liam examined Evelyn’s signature.

Then looked at Olivia.

“She didn’t write this.”

“How do you know?”

“Because Grandma always signed Hale with an open H.”

This H was closed.

Someone had forged the dead woman’s name.

Again.
