Chapter 7 - The Plan to Break Her
After the bank email appeared, Derek and Marlene changed tactics.
They stopped arguing in front of Elena.
Instead, they began creating incidents designed to make her look confused.
Objects disappeared from Elena’s room and reappeared in strange places. Appointments vanished from her calendar. Marlene told staff members that Elena had forgotten conversations that never occurred.
One afternoon, Derek brought a physician named Dr. Keller to the mansion.
He introduced the visit as an informal consultation.
Elena refused to speak privately with him.
Derek responded with practiced concern.
“See what I’m dealing with? She believes everyone is against her.”
Dr. Keller appeared uncomfortable and left after twenty minutes. Elena later discovered that he had not been told the full truth. Derek had described her as someone experiencing sudden memory loss and paranoia.
Rachel contacted the doctor and explained the situation. He agreed to provide a statement confirming that Derek had attempted to arrange an evaluation without Elena’s consent.
Still, Derek continued.
He told relatives Elena was unwell. Marlene informed household staff that all important decisions should go through Derek.
Then Derek froze Elena’s access to the joint bank account.
When Elena demanded an explanation, he smiled.
“It’s temporary. Until you become more stable.”
The words were spoken in the hallway, outside the bedroom camera’s range.
Elena knew they were becoming more careful.
She needed to force them back into the room.
On the final Friday of the month, Elena told Derek she had contacted a divorce attorney and intended to leave the next morning.
She had not planned to say it so soon, but the statement achieved its purpose.
Derek’s expression hardened.
“You are not leaving with my company’s records.”
“They are records connected to my identity.”
Marlene appeared at the top of the stairs.
“You have no idea what you are doing.”
“I know exactly what I’m doing.”
That night, Elena packed one small suitcase and placed it beside the bed.
She sent Rachel a single message.
Tomorrow morning.
Rachel replied immediately.
Keep the camera active. Police are ready if the situation escalates.
