Chapter 4: The Mother’s Final Protection
The strongest piece of evidence came from a man Olivia had never expected to meet again.
Arthur Reeves had been her mother’s private lawyer. He was old now, with silver hair and tired eyes, but the moment Olivia said her name, he became completely still.
“I have been waiting for you,” he said.
From an old cabinet, he removed a sealed folder.
Inside was a trust agreement signed by Olivia’s mother before she died.
Olivia read the pages once.
Then again.
Then her hands began to shake.
The document stated that if Edmund ever became unable to manage his affairs because of illness, manipulation, or financial abuse, temporary control of the Blackwood family assets would pass to the last direct heir of the Blackwood bloodline.
Olivia.
Her mother had protected her before anyone even knew danger was coming.
Arthur looked at her gently.
“Your mother trusted you,” he said. “Even when others tried to erase you, the law did not.”
For the first time in years, Olivia felt her mother standing beside her.
Together, Olivia, Arthur, Theo, and Nora built the case piece by piece.
They restored deleted security footage. They traced hidden money transfers. They collected medical records, staff statements, and copies of letters Edmund had written but never sent.
The night before returning to the mansion, Olivia sat alone in her apartment.
On the table before her were two things:
The leather folder.
And an old photo of herself with her mother.
“I’m going home,” Olivia whispered.
