Chapter 8 - Ryan’s Final Performance
At the preliminary hearing, Ryan appeared in a dark suit and carried himself like a misunderstood professional.
His attorney described the kitchen incident as a minor marital disagreement exaggerated by emotional witnesses.
Ryan claimed Emma had broken the plate herself and that the redness on her cheek came from accidentally striking a cabinet.
Then the prosecutor presented the emergency call.
Chloe’s whisper filled the courtroom.
“My brother attacked his wife. Please come quickly.”
Ryan looked toward his sister with open hatred.
The prosecutor introduced photographs from the kitchen, Emma’s medical examination, and statements from the responding officers.
Next came the financial evidence.
Investigators had discovered that Ryan attempted to redirect Emma’s insurance policy and had used information from Melissa and Natalie to apply for credit.
The notebook connected the women and showed a deliberate pattern.
Ryan’s confidence began to fracture.
His attorney requested a recess.
Before the judge could respond, Ryan stood and shouted that every woman in the room was lying because they wanted his money.
The courtroom fell silent.
Emma watched the performance collapse.
Ryan pointed at Melissa.
“She abandoned me.”
He pointed at Natalie.
“She stole from me.”
Then he pointed at Emma.
“And she married me for my house.”
Emma’s attorney calmly placed a property record before the court.
The townhouse did not belong to Ryan.
It belonged to a company funded through accounts investigators believed contained money taken from Melissa and Natalie.
Melissa stared at the record.
Ryan had used her savings to make the original down payment years earlier.
The judge ordered Ryan detained pending further proceedings, citing the evidence, witness intimidation concerns, and violation of the protection order.
As deputies approached, Ryan looked at Emma.
“You ruined my life.”
