Chapter 14 - THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER SAW WHAT EVERYONE MISSEDEvidence was not proof.

Vale's attorneys attacked immediately.
The maintenance invoice did not prove sabotage.
The Mercer documents could be challenged.
Nathan had motives.
Vanessa had credibility problems.
Richard was facing prosecution.
Claire had money to gain.
Every witness could be painted as compromised.
Emma listened to Martin list the weaknesses.
Then she remembered the wedding.
Hundreds of photographs.
A professional photographer capturing almost every room.
"What happened to the wedding photos?"
Daniel stared at her.
"I never asked."
The photographer still had the raw files.
More than eight thousand images.
They examined them through the night.
At 3:17 a.m., Lily stopped scrolling.
"Daniel."
An image taken outside the groom's office showed Thomas Vale.
Nothing unusual.
Then the next image.
Vale handing Richard a blue folder.
The next.
Judge Keene in the background.
The next.
Nathan Cole entering through a service corridor.
Daniel turned toward his half-brother.
"You were at my wedding?"
Nathan nodded.
"I told Vale I was there to supervise the Northstar paperwork."
"Why didn't you come to me?"
"I didn't know whether you'd choose truth or your father."
Daniel absorbed that.
"What convinced you?"
Nathan looked at the photograph of Daniel at the altar.
"When you stopped the wedding."
The images established that Vale, Keene and Nathan were all at Halewood during the execution of the fraudulent restructuring.
But one photograph mattered more.
It showed Vale standing outside the small office where Richard later confronted Vanessa.
In his hand was the Mercer file.
Timestamp: 9:42 a.m.
The safe had not been empty on the morning of the wedding.
Vale had removed the evidence before police ever knew it existed.
The bankruptcy hearing began forty-eight hours later.
Vale entered through the courthouse front doors surrounded by attorneys.
Daniel arrived with Margaret, Lily, Claire and Nathan.
Emma stayed behind them.
Vanessa entered separately under federal protection.
Reporters shouted questions.
Margaret stopped on the courthouse steps.
One journalist asked whether she was trying to restore the Mercer family's honor.
Margaret looked directly into the cameras.
"No."
The crowd quieted.
"I'm trying to make sure honor is never confused with a family name again."
Then she walked inside.
Thomas Vale watched from the top of the steps.
For the first time, he understood what Richard had understood too late.
May you like
The Whitmores were no longer trying to protect the Whitmore legacy.
That made them much harder to control.
