Chapter 4 - Beatrice’s Celebration

Beatrice planned a three-day family celebration at the resort without asking permission.
She reserved twenty-eight suites, two villas, the ballroom, the private marina, and the entire spa.
The event was supposed to celebrate Malcolm’s sixtieth birthday, but Beatrice designed everything around herself.
Her name appeared on the menus.
Her favorite flowers filled the lobby.
Her friends received gift bags containing resort jewelry and luxury skincare products.
The estimated cost was more than four hundred thousand dollars.
Juliet discovered the reservation during a meeting with the new financial team.
“Has a deposit been paid?” she asked.
The events manager shook her head.
“Mrs. Beaumont said family members don’t pay deposits.”
“Send her a contract.”
“She’ll be furious.”
“Send it anyway.”
Beatrice entered Juliet’s temporary office less than twenty minutes later.
She dropped the contract on the desk.
“What is this?”
“A booking agreement.”
“This is Malcolm’s birthday.”
“It is also a commercial event using resort property.”
Beatrice laughed.
“You have been here for a few weeks, and now you think you can charge your own family?”
“I think the resort should be paid for the services it provides.”
“You sound like an accountant.”
“That’s because the accountants are the only people here telling the truth.”
Beatrice leaned closer.
“You should remember your position, Juliet. Your father allows you to work here because he feels guilty about your mother. Do not confuse pity with authority.”
Juliet studied her carefully.
“Are you refusing to pay the deposit?”
“I’m refusing to participate in this performance.”
Beatrice turned toward the door.
Before leaving, she added, “During the celebration, stay away from the family areas. Some of our guests don’t even know who you are.”
May you like
Juliet looked at the unsigned contract.
“That will change,” she said quietly.
