Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: What Lily Remembered
Three weeks later, the Whitmore Grand Hotel looked different to Emily. Not because the marble had changed or the chandeliers had dimmed, but because she no longer entered it as the woman everyone pitied. She entered through the front doors with Lily beside her, wearing a yellow dress and holding a small bouquet.Olivia had invited them to a private lunch. No cameras. No guests. No wedding decorations.Just the people who had chosen truth when it mattered.Daniel, the security staff member, had also been invited. Olivia’s father had promoted him for his quick action and honesty. At lunch, Olivia gave Lily a small gift box.Inside was the original flower basket from the wedding, repaired and tied with a new ribbon.Lily touched it carefully.“Am I still allowed to like weddings?” she asked.Everyone at the table went quiet.Emily’s heart squeezed.Olivia smiled gently.“Yes,” she said. “Because one bad groom does not get to ruin weddings forever.”Lily thought about that, then nodded.Henry chuckled softly.“That is a wise rule.”After lunch, Olivia walked with Emily near the hotel garden.“I’m sorry again,” Olivia said.Emily shook her head. “You believed the truth when you saw it. That matters.”Olivia looked toward Lily, who was showing Daniel how she had carried the basket.“She was braver than most adults in that room.”Emily smiled sadly.“She shouldn’t have had to be.”“No,” Olivia said. “She shouldn’t.”For the first time in weeks, Emily felt something loosen inside her.The wound was not gone. But it was no longer hidden. And hidden wounds were the ones that had ruled her family for too long.
