Chapter 4 - The Perfect Family
The following weeks became a performance.
At breakfast, Claire smiled while Adrian discussed the upcoming corporate gala.
At dinner, she pretended not to notice when he checked her phone.
At company events, she stood beside Evelyn while photographers captured images of the perfect Vale family.
Behind the performance, Claire collected evidence.
She copied server logs, payment approvals, email conversations, and recordings of private meetings. She discovered Adrian had created fake consulting companies and used them to purchase apartments, cars, and artwork.
Evelyn had approved several transfers herself.
The theft was not Adrian’s secret.
It was a family operation.
Richard continued gathering evidence from inside the executive office. He and Claire communicated through handwritten notes rather than company email.
One afternoon, Richard passed her in a hallway and quietly said, “The garage. Friday. Nine.”
On Friday night, Claire arrived early and hid a small security camera behind a ventilation panel in the underground garage.
Richard planned to confront Adrian and Evelyn, hoping they would confess or threaten him on camera.
Claire waited in a maintenance room and watched the live feed on her laptop.
Adrian arrived first.
Evelyn followed, wearing a dark green coat and diamond earrings.
Richard stood between them.
“It ends tonight,” he said. “You return the money and resign.”
Adrian laughed.
“You don’t control the company anymore.”
“I founded it.”
“And I modernized it.”
“You robbed it.”
Evelyn stepped forward.
“Lower your voice.”
Richard looked at his wife with open disgust.
“You helped him steal from people who trusted us.”
“I protected our family.”
“You protected your lifestyle.”
Adrian moved closer to his father.
“You should be careful. People your age have accidents.”
Richard became very still.
Claire’s hands tightened around the laptop.
Then Evelyn looked directly toward the hidden camera.
For one terrifying second, Claire thought she had seen it.
But Evelyn only adjusted her hair in a car window.
Richard ended the confrontation and walked away.
The camera had captured everything.
