The recording was dated nine days before the wedding.
Leonard's voice came first.
"The route changes over the Adriatic."
Adrian answered.
"What if he checks?"
"He won't."
Vanessa spoke next.
"And Olivia?"
"She won't be on the plane."
Nathan gripped the table.
Leonard continued.
"Once the transfer documents are signed, she goes to Hawthorne."
Vanessa asked, "For how long?"
"As long as necessary."
Adrian laughed.
"By the time anyone asks questions, Nathan will be dead."
Nathan stopped the recording.
He could not listen further.
Sarah Bennett sat beside him.
Detective Ross stood across the room.
Nobody spoke for several seconds.
Finally Ross said, "We inspected the aircraft scheduled for your honeymoon."
Nathan looked up.
"And?"
"Someone altered a maintenance sensor connected to the fuel system."
Nathan closed his eyes.
"Would it have crashed?"
"We can't say with certainty."
"But?"
Ross nodded slightly.
"It could have."
Nathan looked toward the recorder.
Leonard's cooperation agreement collapsed immediately.
He had not told prosecutors about the plane.
Now they had evidence that he had planned Nathan's death.
Vanessa agreed to give a complete statement in exchange for prosecutors considering her cooperation.
Nathan did not care what deal she received.
He wanted every fact.
Her confession lasted seven hours.
Leonard had begun stealing from the Whitmore Children's Foundation nearly a decade earlier.
Adrian helped create shell companies.
Dr. Trent created false psychological evaluations for anyone who threatened them.
Vanessa handled personal infiltration and reputation management.
Emily discovered the scheme by accident.
At first, Leonard only wanted to frighten her.
But Emily refused to stop.
Adrian sabotaged her brakes.
Vanessa followed to make sure the warning worked.
When Emily crashed, she remained alive.
Vanessa called Leonard.
Leonard told them to wait.
No ambulance.
No police.
Wait.
Emily died before another driver discovered the wreck.
Afterward, Leonard feared Emily had left evidence.
He searched the Whitmore properties.
He manipulated Nathan's grief.
He monitored Rebecca.
Years passed.
Then Olivia began showing signs that she remembered fragments of adult conversations from before and after Emily's death.
Nobody initially considered a toddler dangerous.
Until Olivia repeated Leonard's name after seeing him argue with Rebecca at the mansion.
Vanessa was ordered to remove Olivia from Nathan's daily life.
The wedding would make access easier.
Nathan's death during the honeymoon would finish the plan.
Sarah closed Vanessa's confession.
"There's enough here."
Nathan stared at nothing.
"For what?"
"To end this."
But one piece remained.
Olivia's trust.
Leonard had transferred millions through Larkspur.
Recovering it would require litigation.
Nathan surprised everyone.
"No."
Sarah frowned.
"No what?"
"We don't spend years quietly fighting over stolen money."
"What do you want?"
Nathan looked at the files from Emily's investigation.
"We expose everything."
Sarah understood.
"Publicly?"
"Every shell company. Every forged evaluation. Every board member who ignored warnings."
Nathan's voice hardened.
"The foundation exists to help children. They used it to steal from them."
Sarah leaned back.
"This will hurt Whitmore Industries."
"I know."
"It could cost you hundreds of millions."
"I know."
"And shareholders may try to remove you."
Nathan looked through the glass door toward Olivia.
She was drawing at the kitchen table.
"My wife died trying to tell the truth."
He turned back.
"I'm not going to hide it because truth is expensive."
Three weeks later, Nathan called an emergency meeting of the Whitmore Foundation board.
