Chapter 6 - The Hospital Confrontation

By the time Dominic reached the hospital, Evelyn had already given birth to a healthy daughter named Rose.
Evelyn was exhausted but alert. Naomi had visited earlier and warned hospital staff that an unwelcome person might attempt to pressure her into signing documents.
Security had been notified.
Dominic entered the room without knocking.
Celeste followed, still wearing her wedding gown.
For one strange moment, no one spoke.
The newborn slept against Evelyn’s chest.
Dominic stared at the baby with an expression Evelyn could not understand. It contained recognition, fear, and perhaps even regret.
Then he saw Naomi’s briefcase beside the chair.
His softness vanished.
Celeste stepped forward.
“You told me there was no baby.”
Dominic avoided her eyes and pulled the nondisclosure agreement from his jacket.
He claimed the document would protect everyone.
He promised Evelyn money, housing, and private medical care.
In exchange, Rose would never publicly be identified as his child.
Evelyn refused.
When she pressed the hospital call button, Dominic realized too late that he had no control inside that room.
“My attorney has the hidden ledger,” Evelyn said. “And your bride is named in it.”
The door opened.
Two security officers entered, followed by Naomi and a woman in a dark government suit.
Naomi looked at Dominic.
“This is Special Agent Lena Ortiz. She has several questions for you.”
Dominic backed away from the bed.
“This is harassment.”
Agent Ortiz remained calm.
“Your company received a legal order to preserve financial records. Forty minutes ago, someone using your executive credentials attempted to delete those records.”
Celeste looked at Dominic in horror.
He turned toward her.
“This is a misunderstanding.”
Naomi removed a copy of the ledger from her briefcase and opened it to a marked page.
“Blue Harbor Consulting lists Celeste as a director. Her electronic signature appears on transfers totaling twenty-six million dollars.”
“I never signed those,” Celeste said.
Dominic’s voice sharpened.
“Do not say anything else.”
May you like
Celeste slowly removed her wedding ring.
For the first time that day, Dominic looked truly afraid.
