Chapter 4 - Room 305

At the hospital, contractions came faster than Madison expected.
Dr. Patel remained calm while the nurses prepared the room.
“Is your husband coming?” one nurse asked.
Madison looked at her silent phone.
“I don’t know.”
She wanted to be angry, but fear occupied every part of her mind.
Nadia arrived shortly after eight, carrying a folder and Madison’s overnight bag.
“I brought everything you requested.”
“Did you reach Ethan?”
“He has not responded to me.”
Madison looked toward the empty chair beside the bed.
“He’s at the party.”
Nadia hesitated.
“There’s more.”
“Tell me.”
“The bank confirmed Ethan tried to move another twelve thousand dollars this morning. The fraud department blocked him.”
Madison closed her eyes.
Even while she was calling for help, Ethan had been thinking about money.
Nadia sat beside her.
“We can wait to discuss the divorce.”
“No.”
“You are under enormous stress.”
“I have spent two years waiting for him to become the man he promised to be.”
Another contraction interrupted her.
Madison gripped Nadia’s hand until the pain passed.
“He said everything he did was for our family,” Madison continued. “But every time I needed him, his mother, his business, or his pride came first.”
Nadia opened the folder.
“I can file today. I can also request temporary custody and an order preventing him from accessing your property.”
“Do it.”
“Are you certain?”
Madison looked at the empty doorway.
“Yes.”
At 10:17, her daughter was born.
The baby cried loudly, filling the room with life.
Madison cried too, but not because Ethan was absent.
She cried because the moment she saw her daughter’s face, uncertainty disappeared.
She named her Lily Grace Cole.

Then she asked the nurse to update the visitor restrictions.
Ethan could enter only with hospital security present.
