Chapter 7: The Apology That Came Too Late

Daniel signaled to security.
“The Hart family will leave the hotel today. Their booking fees will be refunded. But Royal Harbor will not serve guests who insult, assault, and falsely accuse employees.”
Victoria stared at him as if she had never been refused in her life.
“You are throwing us out? Do you know who we are?”
Daniel answered calmly.
“Yes. And I also know who Clara Hayes is.”
He turned toward Clara.
“She has worked here for three years without a single serious complaint. She once returned a diamond bracelet a guest left behind. She once stayed past midnight to help a family find their lost child inside this hotel. She has protected our guests and our name more than many people in this room know.”
Clara froze.
She had never known Daniel remembered those things.
The front desk staff began to clap.
At first, it was quiet. Then the applause grew. Guests joined in. Employees who had been too afraid to speak now looked at Clara with respect.
Tears slipped down Clara’s face.
But this time, they were not tears of humiliation.
They were tears of relief.
Evelyn stepped forward, her voice small.
“I’m sorry.”
Daniel looked at her.
“Not to me.”
Evelyn forced herself to face Clara.
“I’m sorry for falsely accusing you.”
Clara was silent for a moment.
“I accept your apology,” she said. “But I will not forget what happened today.”
Victoria grabbed Evelyn’s arm and turned to leave, but Daniel spoke again.
“Mrs. Hart.”
Victoria stopped.
“Your slap was seen and recorded by many people in this lobby. Clara has every right to report it. If she chooses to do so, this hotel will support her.”
For once, Victoria had no answer.
She walked out with her daughter under the weight of everyone’s stare.
After they disappeared through the revolving doors, Daniel turned to Mark.
“Effective immediately, you are suspended pending an internal investigation.”
Mark looked shocked.
“Sir, I have worked here for twelve years.”
Daniel replied, “Then you should have learned by now that employees are not shields for VIP comfort.”
May you like
Mark lowered his head and walked away.
Clara remained standing in the lobby, still trying to believe that the truth had finally won.
