Chapter 14 - the fall of julian vale

The truth about Vivian’s birth could not be confirmed immediately.
Helena’s records named Daniel Mercer as her father. Daniel had raised Vivian until his death when she was six. Nothing in the documents suggested he had doubted she was his daughter.
But Helena’s third cassette contained a confession.
She had met Alexander during the months before the Blackwater crash. He was working under a false identity while investigating Conrad’s finances. Helena helped him communicate with Adrian.
One night, after both men realized they might not survive Conrad’s retaliation, Alexander gave Helena a sealed genetic record.
He told her that Conrad had hidden his existence and that someone needed to preserve the truth.
Helena did.
Years later, when Vivian was born, she recorded the final tape.
“Daniel is Vivian’s father in every way that matters,” Helena said. “He knows the circumstances of her birth and chose to love her without condition.”
Vivian cried when she heard that.
Her father had known.
He had never treated her as anything except his daughter.
Helena continued.
“Biologically, Vivian may be Alexander Vale’s only natural child. I never completed the final test because knowledge can become a weapon in the wrong hands.”
Julian had discovered enough to suspect the truth.
That was why he began watching Vivian years before meeting her.
Marrying Vivian placed a potential Vale heir under his control. The pregnancy was not the beginning of his plan. It was a second method of securing the succession if Vivian’s own bloodline proved impossible to establish.
Federal investigators moved Vivian to a protected medical residence.
Thomas Rowan’s burial site was located using the bracelet from Room 7. A court authorized a formal identification process. Preliminary testing confirmed that the man buried under Adrian’s name belonged to the Rowan family.
Nathan’s father finally had a name again.
The court suspended every transfer executed through Adrian’s false death certificate.
Julian’s accounts were frozen.
His authority over the Vale corporation disappeared overnight.
News organizations released documents from the black ledger. Former employees learned that stolen pension money might be recovered. Families who had spent decades believing their losses were unavoidable discovered that the company had hidden billions of dollars.
Conrad’s public legacy collapsed.
The hospital removed his name from the trauma wing.
The Vale Foundation board appointed Vivian as temporary independent director because of her previous charity work and her lack of involvement in the financial crimes.
She accepted only after establishing one condition.
No succession decision would be made until Mara, Leo, Sophie, and every affected family received independent legal representation.
It was the first time in decades that someone connected to the Vale name used its power to give choices back rather than take them away.
Julian remained missing.
For eleven days, investigators searched his properties, airfields, boats, and private accounts.
Vivian’s delivery date approached.
Elias stayed near the protected residence, though Vivian no longer trusted him without limits. He accepted that.
“I will answer every question,” he told her. “And when you believe I should leave, I will.”
Ruth provided testimony about Helena’s role and admitted hiding evidence from Nathan. He did not forgive her, but he listened.
Mara began rebuilding her relationship with Leo slowly. The protected family who had cared for him remained involved, giving the child stability while Mara became part of his daily life.
Sophie returned home with her daughter. Independent testing confirmed the child was unrelated to the Vale samples. She named her Hope.
Keira Dane was found alive in another state.
She had spent eighteen months believing her daughter had died. Investigators reopened the case and discovered evidence that the infant had been moved through the same private adoption network used for Leo.
There was now a chance Keira’s child could be found.
The possibility gave every woman Julian had deceived a reason to keep fighting.
On a quiet evening, Vivian sat beside the residence window, listening to rain.
Her secure phone rang.
Julian’s name appeared on the screen.
The investigators had warned her not to answer calls from unknown locations, but Nathan was already monitoring the line.
Vivian answered.
“Where are you?”
Julian laughed softly.
“You sound different.”
“I know what you did.”
“You know what people have told you.”
“I know you used women as containers for a trust you wanted to control.”
“I created heirs who would not exist without me.”
“You created crimes.”
“I gave Mara’s son wealth beyond anything she could offer.”
“You stole two years of his life from her.”
“She will forgive that when she sees his inheritance.”
“You still think everyone wants what you want.”
“Everyone wants power. Honest people simply feel guilty about admitting it.”
Vivian looked toward the officers monitoring the call.
“Why did you call?”
“To warn you.”
“About what?”
“My mother.”
“Celeste is in custody.”
“That has never stopped her.”
“She helped expose you.”
“She exposed the version of the plan she could survive.”
Vivian said nothing.
Julian continued.
“You believe the trust will recognize you because Alexander may have been your father.”
“The court will decide what the evidence proves.”
“The court will never see all the evidence.”
“Is that a threat?”
“It is a fact.”
“Where is the fourth embryo?”
Julian became quiet.
Vivian pressed.
“Helena took it, didn’t she?”
“My father believed she did.”
“And you?”
“I know she did.”
“How?”
“Because she left a record of the transfer.”
“To whom?”
Julian laughed again.
“You have spent your whole life beside the answer.”
The line disconnected.
Nathan’s team traced the call to an abandoned warehouse near the river.
Agents entered within minutes.
Julian was not there.
They found a phone attached to a timer, several old Vale files, and a video recording.
In the video, Julian sat beneath a single light.
“If you are watching this, the company has already turned against me. My accounts are frozen. My mother is bargaining for her freedom. Vivian is preparing to take control of something she does not understand.”
He leaned toward the camera.
“The fourth embryo was transferred eleven years ago.”
A document appeared on the screen.
The patient’s name had been covered.
The date matched the week before Helena’s death.
“The child was born ten years ago,” Julian said. “Helena hid the birth, changed the records, and placed the child with someone close enough to protect him.”
The image changed.
A school photograph appeared.
A boy with dark hair stood among a group of children.
His face had been blurred.
“Find him before my mother does,” Julian said. “Because unlike Vivian’s baby and Mara’s son, this child was not created from Adrian or Alexander.”
He smiled.
“He was created from Conrad Vale.”
The recording ended.
Nathan looked at Vivian.
“If Conrad had another biological son…”
“The succession war begins again,” Elias said.
Vivian shook her head.
“No.”
They looked at her.
“There will be no war over a child. We find him to protect him, not to control him.”
That decision became the foundation of everything that followed.
A court restored Thomas Rowan’s identity.
Adrian Vale’s death certificate was suspended.
Julian’s marriage-related authority over Vivian’s medical care was revoked.
Federal prosecutors issued a public warrant for him.
Vivian filed for annulment based on fraud and coercion.
For the first time since entering the Vale mansion, she felt that Julian no longer owned any part of her life.

But he still knew the identity of the hidden child.
And somewhere beyond the city, he was searching.
