A Strange Woman Appears at the Gender Reveal Party

The applause in the backyard of the mansion had just begun when the iron gate suddenly opened.

Every guest turned their head.

Blue and white balloons floated in the breeze. Silver ribbons were tied around the chairs, the dessert table was covered with a spotless white cloth, and in the center of the yard stood a giant black balloon, waiting to reveal whether the baby in Amelia Whitmore’s belly was a boy or a girl.

Amelia stood beside her husband, Ryan Hale, one hand resting gently on her six-month pregnant belly. She smiled at everyone, her eyes shining like she was the happiest woman in the world.

But that smile vanished when the sound of a child crying cut through the air.

A young woman walked in.

She wore an old cream-colored dress. Her hair was tied low, and her exhausted face looked as if she had traveled a very long way. In her arms was a small baby, crying breathlessly. Beside her stood a little boy around four years old, his eyes red, both hands clutching the edge of her dress.

No one knew who she was.

No one had invited her.

Amelia frowned, trying to remain calm.

“Who are you?”

The woman did not look at Amelia.

She looked straight at Ryan.

That single look was enough to drain all color from his face.

Ryan stepped back, and the silver pin in his hand began to tremble.

The woman held the baby tighter, her voice hoarse from holding back pain.

“Are you really about to celebrate becoming a father again?”

The entire backyard fell silent.

The laughter, the conversations, the cameras — everything disappeared in one frozen moment. Only the wind moving through the balloons and the baby’s broken cries remained.

Amelia turned to her husband.

“Ryan… what is she talking about?”

Ryan opened his mouth, but no words came out.

The woman took another step forward.

The little boy beside her suddenly ran ahead. He stopped a few steps away from Ryan, looked up at him with tear-filled eyes, and pointed directly at him.

“Daddy…”

One tiny word.

But it was enough to silence the entire party.

Amelia felt as if her heart had been crushed. Her hand trembled against her belly. Her mother immediately stepped forward to support her.

Ryan lowered his head, avoiding every pair of eyes around him.

The strange woman looked at him, her lips shaking, but her eyes firm.

“Before you find out whether that baby is a boy or a girl,” she said, “you should tell her who these two children are.”

The silver pin slipped from Ryan’s hand.

It hit the marble floor with a cold, sharp sound.

The black balloon still hung in the middle of the yard, untouched.

But Ryan’s secret had already exploded in front of everyone.
