Chapter 6 - The Closed Coffin
Helena refused Daniel’s request to delay the ceremony.
She claimed the crematorium schedule could not be changed. She also informed him that Clara’s body had already been transferred from the clinic.
Officer Ortiz requested an emergency order to stop the cremation, but the judge needed evidence connecting the coffin to a living person rather than a fraudulent document.
The legal process moved painfully slowly.
Daniel went to the chapel alone.
Helena had invited only a few relatives. She told them Clara’s death had been sudden and that Daniel was too unstable to participate in the arrangements.
When Daniel arrived, everyone turned toward him.
Marcus approached.
“You should not be here.”
“That is my wife in that coffin.”
“You gave up the right to make decisions when you accused the family of murder.”
Daniel looked toward the coffin.
Pale roses covered the lid. The cremation chamber was already glowing.
Dr. Crane stood near the wall.
Daniel walked directly toward him.
“How much did Marcus pay you?”
Crane’s eyes widened.
“You are grieving.”
“I found the email.”
Crane glanced at Helena.
That single glance confirmed the conspiracy.

Then he placed both hands on the coffin.
