Chapter 11 - the room beneath the estate

The key opened a hidden room beneath the west wing.

Inside was a wall covered with photographs.

Richard had spent years building the evidence.

Hannah saw Vivian.

Martin Hale.

Bankers.

Politicians.

Executives.

And her mother.

At the center was a photograph of Hannah as a child.

A red line connected her photograph to Vivian.

Another connected Vivian to Martin.

Another connected Martin to a company Hannah had never heard of.

Samuel stood behind her.

“This is why your father was afraid.”

Hannah stared at the wall.

“What is this company?”

“An offshore trust.”

“Who owns it?”

Samuel pointed to the documents.

“The ownership was concealed.”

Hannah read the first page.

Then the second.

Her face changed.

The trust had been established in Hannah's name.

She had been the beneficiary since childhood.

Vivian had never owned the estate.

She had been managing assets that technically belonged to Hannah.

Hannah turned to Samuel.

“Why would Dad put everything in my name?”

“Because he expected someone to try to take it.”

“Who?”

Samuel looked at the photograph of Vivian.

“That's what we're trying to prove.”

Suddenly, the lights went out.

The room went completely dark.

Hannah heard a door slam.

Samuel grabbed her arm.

“Don't move.”

A sound came from the corridor.

Someone had entered the house.

Someone who knew exactly where the hidden room was.
