Chapter 8 - The Courtroom Truth
The emergency hearing took place three days later.
Daniel’s attorney called the incident a marital disagreement. Vivian submitted a statement claiming she had acted out of concern for her son.
Emily’s evidence told a different story.
The judge reviewed the recording, access-card suspension, messages, and refinance documents. Naomi showed that Daniel had contacted a lender and real estate agent without Emily’s permission.
The prenuptial agreement was direct. The apartment belonged solely to Emily before, during, and after the marriage.
Daniel’s attorney suggested that his household contributions created a claim. Naomi produced bank records showing Emily had paid nearly every major expense for two years.
The judge granted Emily temporary exclusive possession and ordered Daniel to remain away while the divorce proceeded. Vivian was prohibited from entering the building.
Outside the courtroom, Daniel approached before security stopped him.
“You destroyed my life,” he said.
Emily met his eyes.
“No. I stopped you from using mine.”
The divorce negotiations lasted four months. Daniel demanded part of the apartment, Rose’s trust, and compensation for the years he had lived there. Each demand failed.
Then Naomi found the most damaging evidence inside the refinance folder: a printed email Daniel had sent Vivian.
