Chapter 7 - The Evidence They Forgot
The officers separated them immediately.
One spoke with Emily in the hallway while another remained with Daniel and Vivian. The building manager provided access logs showing Daniel’s earlier request to suspend Emily’s entry card.
Emily showed the deed on her phone and forwarded a copy to Naomi. She also played the security recording.
The video captured Vivian carrying the bowl, blocking Emily’s path, and returning to the table with it empty. The audio captured the insults, Daniel’s order, and Emily’s call for help.
Daniel changed his story three times.
First, he said Emily had thrown the soup herself. Then he called it an accident. Finally, he claimed she could not remove them without formal notice.
The manager explained that Daniel had no ownership interest and Vivian was listed only as a guest.
Naomi arrived carrying the deed, prenuptial agreement, and divorce petition.
Daniel stared at the papers. “You planned this?”
“I prepared for it,” Emily said.
Naomi informed him that Emily was requesting an emergency protective order and exclusive use of the residence.
“You can’t throw me out with nothing,” Daniel said.
“Your accounts are untouched,” Emily replied. “Your belongings can be collected under supervision.”
“You’ll regret humiliating me.”
The officer beside him wrote down the threat.
By midnight, Daniel and Vivian had left.

The door closed behind them.
Emily stood among spilled soup, cold food, and fading candles. Then she cried, not because she wanted them back, but because she finally understood how long she had been waiting for silence.
