Chapter 11 - the wife inside richard’s trap

Richard returned to the apartment and found Claire’s clothes missing.

He did not panic.

Panic was useful only when there were no remaining moves.

He contacted Meridian Crest through the encrypted number.

Claire is with Eleanor.

The response appeared seconds later.

Then proceed with removal.

Richard stared at the message.

He knew what removal meant in legal terms.

It meant discrediting Claire before she could establish her identity.

He opened a prepared folder on his computer.

For months, he had documented her dreams, her anxiety, and every disagreement about her past. He had saved messages in which she described hearing a woman’s voice in her sleep. He had recorded conversations without her knowledge.

In isolation, none of it proved instability.

Arranged correctly, it created a convincing story.

Pregnant woman develops fixation on wealthy family.

Woman claims to be missing heiress.

Woman accuses husband of conspiracy.

Woman steals confidential documents.

Woman becomes danger to herself and unborn child.

Richard sent the file to a private physician willing to sign an emergency evaluation request.

Then he called the hotel.

Eleanor’s assistant answered.

“I need to speak to my wife.”

“Mrs. Vale is resting.”

“Claire has a medical condition. She needs to return home.”

“What condition?”

“That is private.”

“Then I cannot assist you.”

Richard ended the call.

He packed Claire’s suitcase with several dresses, her prenatal medication, and personal documents. He added the forged DNA report.

Then he placed a small bottle of prescription sedatives inside her cosmetic bag.

The medication was not hers.

When security searched the suitcase, the evidence would suggest she had been taking unapproved drugs during pregnancy.

Richard carried the suitcase to the hotel himself.

By noon, reporters had gathered outside.

Someone had leaked the anonymous letter and the possibility that Eleanor’s daughter had survived.

The story spread quickly.

Missing Waverly Heiress May Be Alive.

Richard entered through the executive garage.

Malcolm Cross, chairman of the hotel board, met him near the private elevator.

Malcolm was a narrow-faced man with calm eyes and a habit of lowering his voice whenever he delivered a threat.

“You were told to complete the transfer quietly,” Malcolm said.

“I did.”

“You married her.”

“That gave me legal access.”

“It gave her a child.”

Richard looked at him.

“Did you know about the succession clause?”

“I know every clause.”

“Then why wasn’t I told?”

“You were not hired to understand the structure.”

Richard’s anger rose.

“Who is Vivian?”

Malcolm’s expression did not change.

“You should stop asking that question.”

“My father called her my greatest mistake.”

“Your father has outlived his usefulness.”

“What does that mean?”

The elevator doors opened.

Malcolm stepped inside.

“It means you should decide whether you want to join him.”

Richard entered after him.

“What happens when Claire’s DNA is tested again?”

“It will confirm what we choose.”

“She has the bracelet.”

“A bracelet proves possession, not birth order.”

“She has a photograph and a recording.”

“Then take them.”

Richard looked at the suitcase.

“And if she refuses to leave?”

Malcolm pressed the button for the private floor.

“Make her.”

When the elevator opened, Daniel stood on the other side.

“Mr. Vale.”

Richard forced a smile.

“I brought my wife’s belongings.”

“You can leave them with me.”

“I need to speak with Claire.”

“She does not wish to see you.”

“I am her husband.”

Daniel glanced at the suitcase.

“Open it.”

Richard’s grip tightened.

“Why?”

“Hotel security policy.”

“This contains private medical items.”

“Then you may take it home.”

Richard looked past him.

At the far end of the hallway, Claire stepped out of Eleanor’s suite.

She wore a white dress Eleanor’s assistant had provided after her clothes became stained at the station.

Richard lifted the suitcase.

“We’re leaving.”

Claire stopped.

“No.”

Malcolm exited the elevator behind Richard.

Eleanor appeared in the doorway of her suite.

The four of them stood in silence.

Richard understood that the situation was slipping beyond his control.

Then Malcolm gave him a slight nod.

May you like

Do it.

Richard walked toward Claire.
