Chapter 7 - Cancel That Transaction
Eleanor’s palm struck the table.
“Cancel that transaction.”
The command stopped the waiter before he could take Annabelle’s card.
Diane spun around. “Mother, this does not concern you.”
“It concerned me the moment you stole from a child.”
The older white-haired man at the far end of the room stood. He was Walter Pierce, one of Vale Mercer’s original board members.
“What is she talking about, Diane?”
Diane laughed, but the sound was brittle.
“Annabelle has manipulated her.”
Eleanor stepped beside Annabelle.
“You stole the inheritance Thomas and Claire left behind. You hid the trust, falsified reports, and used her money to rescue your company.”
Several relatives rose from their chairs.
At 7:59, the dining-room doors opened.
Samuel Reed entered with a thick leather folder. Behind him stood two bank compliance officers and a federal investigator.
He placed the folder beside the unpaid bill.
“We found every transfer.”
Annabelle looked up.
Diane did not look at the documents. She looked toward the exit.
Samuel opened the folder. Inside were the signed court order, transfer schedules, Martin’s archived emails, and copies of Diane’s voice messages. Martin had not fled with nothing. Before leaving, he had uploaded years of records to a secure server.
One compliance officer checked her tablet.
“The offshore transfer has been stopped.”
The clock changed to 8:00.
Diane moved toward the door.
The investigator blocked her path.
Eleanor placed a hand on Annabelle’s shoulder.
“You wanted her removed from this family,” she said. “Instead, I’m removing you.”
Diane’s expression hardened.
“You cannot remove me from what I built.”
Walter Pierce answered from across the table.

For the first time, the family did not turn away.
