YOU FED MY SON / Chapter 7 / 10

Chapter 7 - Irina’s File

Anton agreed to speak only in a secure hospital room.

Mikhail, Elena, and a federal investigator listened as he described Victor’s scheme.

Victor had secretly diverted company money for years. When Mikhail’s wife, Irina, discovered suspicious payments, she began collecting evidence.

“She planned to tell you,” Anton said.

Mikhail’s voice was strained. “Why didn’t she?”

Anton looked away.

“Victor learned what she had found.”

The room became silent.

Irina’s fatal accident had occurred two days later.

There was no proof Victor caused it, but Anton believed he had arranged for someone to frighten her and recover the documents. The plan had ended in tragedy.

Anton later found backups of Irina’s files. He wanted to give them to Mikhail during the hotel charity event, but Victor’s men followed him.

“I hid the drive in Misha’s jacket,” Anton explained. “I told him a driver was outside because I needed him away from the ballroom before they searched everyone.”

“You endangered my son,” Mikhail said.

“I know. I thought I could lead him to security. Then Victor’s men found me. Misha ran into the storm.”

Elena placed a hand on Mikhail’s arm before his anger could take control.

Anton continued.

“The flash drive is incomplete. Irina kept the final evidence somewhere Victor would never search.”

“Where?”

Anton looked at Elena.

“At the diner.”

Elena stared at him.

Anton explained that years earlier, Irina often visited Rosa’s Diner while volunteering at a nearby shelter. She trusted Rosa.

After Irina’s death, Rosa had received a sealed envelope with instructions to protect it until Misha was old enough or Mikhail learned the truth.

Elena remembered her mother’s locked metal box in the diner basement.

They returned immediately.

Inside the box, beneath old tax forms and family photographs, they found a sealed envelope addressed to Mikhail.

It contained a handwritten letter from Irina, original financial records, and an audio recording.

Irina’s voice filled the empty diner.

“If you are hearing this, I was unable to finish what I started. Trust the evidence, Mikhail. Protect our son. And do not let grief turn you into a man he is afraid to love.”

Mikhail closed his eyes.

Misha reached for his hand.

For the first time since Elena had met him, Mikhail cried.
