Chapter 5 - The Secret Inside the Wedding Plan
The wedding was scheduled to take place at the Grand Bellmont Hotel, an enormous historic building owned by one of Ward Industries’ oldest partners.
Nolan chose the ballroom because it could hold investors, politicians, executives, and members of the press.
He wanted the ceremony to become a public symbol of the Vale family’s control.
Elena decided it would become something else.
With Maya’s help, she built a plan around Nolan’s pride.
The hotel’s audiovisual system would be used to display a romantic film before the ceremony. Elena secretly replaced the scheduled file with a presentation prepared by Daniel.
The presentation included bank records, internal messages, recorded threats, and a timeline of the scheme against Ward Industries.
Copies were also sent to federal investigators.
However, Maya warned that they still needed proof connecting Nolan directly to the fraud.
“He has been careful,” she said. “Most instructions came from his father.”
“Then we make him careless.”
Elena told Nolan she was ready to sign the consolidation agreement.
His reaction confirmed everything.
He became affectionate again. He sent expensive gifts, praised her loyalty, and told Thomas that Elena had finally recovered from her uncertainty.
During a private dinner, Elena asked Nolan what would happen after the wedding.
“You will take time away from the company,” he said.
“For how long?”
“As long as necessary.”
“And my father?”
“He will remain as an adviser until the board decides otherwise.”
Elena pretended to be surprised.
“I thought you respected him.”
“I respect what he built. That does not mean he should continue controlling it.”
“What about Aurora House?”
Nolan took a drink of wine.
“That project has become financially inconvenient.”
“It was my mother’s life’s work.”
“Your mother was sentimental. Sentiment does not create profit.”
Elena’s fingernails pressed into her palm beneath the table.
“You bought the Mercer Street building.”
Nolan looked at her.
For the first time, he appeared uncertain.
“How do you know that?”
“I saw the transfer documents.”
His uncertainty vanished.
“Then you understand that the shelter will close after the wedding.”
“Why?”
“Because the land is worth more than the building.”
“There are families living there.”
“They will find somewhere else.”
Elena let the silence stretch between them.
“What if I refuse to sign?”
Nolan leaned across the table.
“You will sign. Your father has already agreed that you need time away from business. Once we are married, no one will question the decision.”
The recording device inside Elena’s necklace captured the entire conversation.
It was enough to prove coercion.
It still was not enough to prove Nolan had directed the financial transfers.
That proof came from an unexpected source.
Three days before the wedding, Nolan’s executive assistant, Rebecca Hall, contacted Elena from an unknown number.
I know what they are doing. I have copies. I need protection.
Rebecca had worked for Nolan for four years. She had prepared the false contracts, arranged meetings with shell-company directors, and transferred documents between Nolan and his father.
She had remained silent because Nolan had threatened to blame her for everything.
Elena and Maya met Rebecca in the back room of Aurora House.
Rebecca arrived carrying a laptop and a small black drive.
“This contains every instruction Nolan sent me,” she said. “He deleted the originals from the company server, but I kept copies.”
“Why?” Elena asked.
“Because I knew one day he would need someone to sacrifice.”
The files contained direct messages from Nolan approving false invoices, ordering the destruction of audit records, and discussing plans to have Elena declared incapable of managing her shares.
