Chapter 8 - The Recovery Order
The officers separated Richard and Victoria from the other guests.
Natalie opened her waterproof briefcase and presented copies of the court order, the trust documents, and the forensic audit.
Richard read the first page repeatedly.
“This is impossible.”
Natalie pointed toward Emily.
“Emily Carter is the legal name used during her corporate training. Her full name is Emily Anne Mercer Carter, granddaughter of Samuel Mercer and controlling chairman of Mercer Holdings.”
The older man in the blue blazer lowered himself onto the bench.
The young woman beside him covered her mouth.
Victoria stared at Emily.
“You’re Uncle David’s daughter?”
Emily nodded.
Victoria had met Emily once when they were children, years before Emily’s parents moved overseas. She had forgotten the quiet cousin who never attended family events.
Samuel had not forgotten.
He had recognized that Emily listened before speaking, worked without demanding praise, and respected people regardless of status.
Richard tore his attention from the document.
“You planned this.”
“I investigated you.”
“You lied about who you were.”
Emily looked at the spilled wine beside his seat.
“You decided a café employee didn’t deserve the truth. That was your mistake, not mine.”
Natalie handed the officers a separate folder.
“This contains evidence of attempted theft, wire fraud, falsified transfers, misuse of protected funds, and interference with a witness.”
Victoria pointed at Emily.
“She fell by accident.”
“The yacht’s cameras will determine that,” one officer said.
Richard stepped toward Emily.
“You don’t understand what you’re doing. The investors trust me.”
“The investors trusted the reports you falsified.”
“You’ll destroy the company.”
“No. I’m removing the people who nearly destroyed it.”
Emily signed the recovery order.
With one signature, Richard lost access to every corporate account, residence, vehicle, and vessel connected to Mercer Holdings.

Then Emily ordered them off the yacht.
