Chapter 14 - The Fall of the Richardsons

The criminal investigation moved quickly after that.
Richardson Maritime's hidden transfers were exposed.
Charles admitted authorizing fraudulent asset movements through Northstar.
Eleanor admitted knowing the company had concealed assets from lenders, although she denied understanding Meridian.
Julian surrendered documents proving David had pressured him into signing the Northstar transfer.
None of it erased what Julian had done.
But it revealed the scale of the trap.
Three weeks after the yacht party, Richardson Maritime entered court-supervised restructuring.
Charles lost control of the company.
The Southampton estate was sold.
The yacht was seized.
Eleanor's jewelry collection, purchased partly through corporate accounts, became evidence.
The woman who had thrown a martini over Sienna now left a federal courthouse through a crowd of reporters wearing an inexpensive coat and no pearls.
Sienna watched from across the street.
She felt no joy.
Only completion.
Kira stood beside her.
"You could buy the estate."
"No."
"The yacht?"
"No."
"Richardson Maritime?"
Sienna considered that.
"Maybe."
Kira smiled slightly.
"That's the Sienna I recognize."
Sienna acquired the viable portions of Richardson Maritime through a transparent restructuring process.
Employees kept their jobs.
Vendors were paid according to the court-approved plan.
The Richardson family lost control.
Charles accepted a cooperation agreement.
Eleanor disappeared from society pages.
And Julian?
Julian came to Sienna's apartment one final time.
She met him downstairs.
He looked different without the expensive clothes.
Tired.
Smaller somehow.
"I wanted to say goodbye."
Sienna nodded.
"I'm leaving New York."
"Where?"
"Does it matter?"
"No."
He smiled sadly.
"Probably not."
For several seconds neither spoke.
Then Julian said, "I did love you."
Sienna looked at him.
"Maybe."
"I know I don't deserve you to believe me."
"No."
"I wish I'd told you."
"So do I."
He looked down.
"Is there any version of this where we could have survived?"
Sienna thought about the question.
Then answered truthfully.
"Yes."
Hope appeared in his face.
She finished.
"The version where you told me the truth before I had to discover it."
The hope vanished.
Sienna walked away.
She did not look back.
That night, for the first time since the yacht party, she slept without dreaming about Julian.
The Richardson chapter of her life was finished.
But Meridian was not.
Because the forged Carter signature remained active.
And according to Vantage's hidden corporate charter, permanent control would transfer at midnight on August 17.
May you like
Sienna's thirty-second birthday.
Six days away.
