Sterling Global placed Damian on administrative leave the following morning.

Raymond removed himself from all company decisions involving the investigation because of his personal relationship with Ava. An independent committee reviewed Damian’s conduct at work.

What they found extended far beyond his marriage.

Several former employees agreed to speak once they learned Damian was under formal investigation. They described intimidation, retaliation, manipulated performance reviews, and pressure to conceal mistakes that benefited Damian’s career.

A former analyst produced emails showing that Damian had taken credit for her work. Another employee revealed that Damian had threatened to damage his reputation if he reported inaccurate financial projections.

Damian had built his career the same way he had controlled his home.

He isolated people.

He made them doubt themselves.

He convinced them that resistance would cost more than silence.

Without the protection of silence, his authority disappeared quickly.

The company terminated him after the independent review.

Raymond did not celebrate.

He understood that Damian would claim he had been dismissed because of family revenge. For that reason, Sterling Global released a carefully documented statement confirming that the decision was based on verified violations of company policy and professional ethics.

Raymond also publicly disclosed that he had struck Damian during the confrontation.

He issued an apology without attempting to justify his action.

“I reacted in anger when I saw that my sister had been harmed,” he said during a board meeting. “My fear for her does not excuse my decision to use physical force. I have accepted the consequences established by the board.”

The board required Raymond to complete conflict intervention training and temporarily transferred some executive responsibilities.

Damian tried to use the incident against him.

The effort failed because Raymond had admitted the truth before Damian could weaponize it.

Ava watched the news coverage from Leah’s apartment.

She disliked seeing her private pain discussed by strangers, but Raymond never identified her publicly. He referred to her only as a family member and refused all requests for details.

Damian’s criminal case moved more slowly.

His attorney claimed Ava had fabricated the abuse to gain financial advantage during divorce proceedings. The defense described her recordings as manipulated and her memory as unreliable.

Ava expected the accusations to break her.

Instead, they made her more determined.

She had spent years defending Damian from the truth.

Now she would defend herself with it.

During the court hearing, Damian sat across the room in a dark suit. He looked polished, calm, and reasonable.

Ava recognized the performance.
