Chapter 6 - Madison's Bedroom

Back at the Hayes mansion, Madison was celebrating.

Her new bedroom was already being renovated.

Cynthia had ordered expensive furniture.

Daniel watched from the doorway.

“You look worried,” Madison said.

“I’m fine.”

“No, you're not.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Your sister needs to stay away.”

Madison frowned.

“Why?”

“Because she has no idea what she's involved in.”

Madison laughed.

“She got kicked out. That's all.”

Daniel's expression hardened.

“You don't understand.”

“What don't I understand?”

Daniel said nothing.

Cynthia appeared behind him.

“Daniel.”

He turned.

“We need to talk.”

Madison watched them leave.

For the first time, she became suspicious.

She followed.

Behind the closed office door, Cynthia whispered,

“She found the house.”

Daniel looked terrified.

“How?”

“Her grandmother.”

“That was supposed to be impossible.”

Cynthia stepped closer.

“You said the papers were gone.”

“They were.”

“Then why does she have them?”

Daniel looked away.

“I don't know.”

Cynthia slammed her hand onto the desk.

“You better find out.”

Madison stood outside the door.

She had heard enough to know one thing.

Her parents were hiding something.

Something involving Natalie.

And something involving the house.

That night, Madison entered Cynthia's office.

She opened the bottom drawer.

Inside was a folder.

On the cover was Natalie's name.

Madison hesitated.

Then she opened it.

The first page contained a photograph.

Madison's smile disappeared.

May you like

Because standing beside Natalie in the photograph was Richard Cole.

And the photograph had been taken only six months ago.
