Chapter 8 - The Man with the Phone

The man in the green jacket was named Caleb Ross.

He was a licensed investigator who had worked with Owen for years. His job was to record anyone Beatrice sent to pressure Elena.

He did not have to wait long.

Forty minutes before Margaret’s flight landed, Charles Wynn appeared.

The family attorney looked nervous as he approached Elena’s bench.

“You need to board the Denver flight,” he said.

“My son is exhausted.”

“The arrangements are temporary. Beatrice will contact you later.”

“I’m waiting for Margaret.”

Charles’s face changed.

“Margaret is still in Switzerland.”

“No, she isn’t.”

Charles lowered his voice.

“You are making this situation more difficult than it needs to be.”

“Did Margaret sign the order removing us?”

“You saw the document.”

“That wasn’t my question.”

Charles glanced around the hall.

“Beatrice is acting in the family’s best interest.”

“Did Margaret sign it?”

Charles leaned closer.

“You have no resources, Elena. No house, no access to the trust, and no money for a legal fight. Take the flight and accept the settlement.”

Behind him, Caleb recorded every word.

Elena remained seated.

“Tell Beatrice I’m not going anywhere.”

Charles walked away and immediately called someone.

Caleb followed at a distance, keeping his phone raised.

Near the airport exit, Charles spoke loudly enough for the recording to capture him.

“She knows Margaret is returning. You told me the clinic had her isolated.”

He paused.

“No, I’m not taking responsibility for the signature. That was your decision.”

Caleb sent the recording to Owen.

Minutes later, black SUVs began arriving outside.

Then Margaret entered the hall.
