Chapter 12 - The Signature He Expected
At 2:07 p.m., Richard called Grant.
Adrian, Emma, Jonah, and the officers listened from the next room.
Richard made his voice unsteady.
“They are refusing to sign.”
Grant answered immediately.
“Then convince them.”
“Adrian will never listen to me now.”
“Use the child.”
Richard looked toward Emma.
She held his gaze.
“Vivian knows where Lily was transferred,” Richard said.
Grant became silent.
“Does she?”
“Yes.”
“You were instructed not to follow the transfer.”
“We did.”
“Where is the child?”
Richard hesitated exactly as Emma had instructed.
“We want protection.”
“From whom?”
“From Adrian. From the investigators. From Thomas.”
Grant’s voice softened.
“You will have protection after the authorization.”
“No. We give you Lily’s location, and you give us access to the funds.”
Adrian’s hands curled into fists, even though he knew the words were part of the plan.
Grant believed them.
“Send the location.”
Richard provided the address of an empty medical office owned by the Vale Group.
Grant sent two men.
Police arrested them upon arrival.
One carried a phone connected to Grant’s live communication system.
Jonah traced the signal through six encrypted relays.
The final location appeared near an abandoned private airfield.
Meanwhile, Adrian and Emma opened the succession portal.
The original agreement appeared.

Adrian James Vale.
Emma Louise Hart.
Contingent beneficiary:
Lily Rose Vale.
Grant’s plan required both signatures.
Emma placed her finger against the scanner.
Adrian did the same.
The system asked for voice confirmation.
Emma looked toward the microphone.
“My name is Emma Louise Vale, formerly Emma Louise Hart. I authorize the temporary transfer.”
Adrian repeated his authorization.
The screen displayed a success message.
Grant called seconds later.
“You finally made a sensible decision.”
“Release Thomas,” Emma said.
“Once I confirm control.”
He accessed the trust.
The hidden escrow system activated.
Across the world, forty-three connected accounts froze simultaneously.
Grant’s calm voice disappeared.
“What did you do?”
Adrian watched account data appear on his screen.
“We gave you exactly what you asked for.”
“This is not a transfer.”
“It is an audit.”
Grant attempted to disconnect.
Jonah had already locked the session.
Every account appeared.
Every false company.
Every forged authorization.
Every payment made to Richard and Vivian.
Every officer, banker, investigator, and contractor Grant had bribed.
One account was labeled custody preparation.
It contained payments to private doctors, social workers, and a judge’s assistant.
Emma felt physically ill.
Grant had planned every step required to declare her and Adrian unfit parents.
“You built a case against us before Lily was born,” she said.
Grant’s face reappeared on the screen.
“You were never supposed to discover it this early.”
“Why us?”
“Because your fathers created a fortune and placed it in the hands of children who did nothing to earn it.”
Adrian leaned toward the camera.
“You could have stolen money quietly.”
“I did. For years. Then Thomas became suspicious.”
“So you arranged his death.”
“I arranged an accident. He survived because Richard’s people reached him first.”
Emma asked, “Why did my father remain hidden?”
Grant smiled.
“That is a question you should ask him. He had opportunities to return.”
Police vehicles were already approaching the airfield.
Jonah received confirmation through his earpiece.
Grant noticed the change in his expression.
“You traced me.”
“Yes.”
Grant looked almost amused.
“Then you should hurry.”
The video showed Thomas’s chair.
It was empty.
A door behind it stood open.
Grant was not at the airfield.
Neither was Emma’s father.
They had traced another decoy.
Then Caleb pointed toward the account screen.
One administrative credential remained active.
