Chapter 4 - The Missing Bracelet

The Harringtons were scheduled to leave on Monday.

On Sunday night, Margaret reported that a diamond bracelet had disappeared from the presidential suite.

The bracelet was insured for nearly two hundred thousand dollars.

Hotel security locked the floor and began interviewing employees who had entered the suite.

Lily’s name appeared on the access log.

She had delivered a package earlier that afternoon.

Victor brought her to the security office.

“Did you see the bracelet?” he asked.

“No.”

“Did you enter the bedroom?”

“No. I handed the package to Mr. Harrington near the entrance.”

Blake sat across from her.

“She came inside.”

Lily stared at him.

“No, I didn’t.”

“You put the package on the table.”

“You took it from my hands at the door.”

Victor turned to Lily.

“The electronic log shows you were inside for four minutes.”

“The door remained open while he signed for the package.”

Blake shrugged.

“I remember her walking toward the bedroom.”

Lily’s stomach tightened.

Margaret watched from the corner.

“I don’t want to believe an employee stole from me,” she said. “But the bracelet did not disappear by itself.”

Security searched Lily’s locker.

They found nothing.

They searched the staff break room, supply carts, and employee entrance.

Still nothing.

Lily asked them to review the hallway camera.

Victor said the security team was already handling it.

Hours passed.

Finally, one of the housekeepers found the bracelet inside Margaret’s jewelry case, hidden beneath a silk scarf.

Margaret claimed she had overlooked it.

There was no apology.

Blake walked past Lily in the lobby the following morning.

“Looks like you got lucky,” he whispered.

Lily stopped.

“That was deliberate.”

He turned.

“What was?”

“You lied about me entering the suite.”

Blake stepped closer.

“You should learn when to let something go.”

“Did you hide the bracelet?”

His expression remained calm.

“You have an active imagination.”

Rosa saw them speaking and quickly approached.

Blake walked away before she arrived.

Lily reported the conversation to Victor.

He told her not to make accusations without proof.

“I was accused without proof,” Lily replied.

“That situation has been resolved.”

“No, it hasn’t. They tried to make me look like a thief.”

Victor stood from his chair.

“The Harrington family has spent millions with this hotel. You have worked here for three months.”

Lily understood his meaning.

Value was not measured by honesty.

It was measured by money.

She left his office and added another entry to her notebook.

That afternoon, Elena found Lily crying in an empty conference room.

Lily immediately wiped her face.

Elena sat beside her.

“What happened?”

For a moment, Lily considered telling her everything.

Then she remembered Victor’s warning about references and future employment.

“It was a difficult shift,” Lily said.

Elena did not appear convinced.

But she did not press her.

“Document difficult shifts,” she advised. “People often rely on silence more than power.”

May you like

Lily looked at her.

She wondered whether Elena already suspected the truth.
