Thomas Bell had been living beneath Cedar Ridge for seven months.

He surrendered a pistol to Naomi and allowed officers to search him. His clothes were layered for the cold tunnels. A small radio hung from his belt, tuned to the frequencies used by Eleanor's people.

"I did not disappear because I stole rent," he said. "I disappeared because I found the grave."

In 1989, the owner of Cedar Ridge was Victor Saye, an accountant for North Lantern Foundation. Public records claimed he sold the land to Rose and moved overseas. Thomas discovered Saye's remains inside a collapsed survey shaft. The skull showed evidence of violence.

Rose had known.

She found the body shortly after purchasing the property, but Arthur Harrow convinced her that reporting it would activate the Lantern network and endanger Evelyn. Instead, Rose sealed the shaft and spent years trying to identify the killer.

"Who helped hide it?" Naomi asked.

Thomas pointed toward Daniel.

Daniel did not deny being present. He had been a junior attorney then, newly employed by Arthur Harrow. Arthur ordered him to prepare documents confirming Saye's departure and to witness the property sale. Daniel believed Saye was alive until Rose showed him the grave years later.

"You falsified records," Evelyn said.

"Yes. I told myself I was following a client's lawful instructions. By the time I understood, my signature was part of the cover. Rose kept me close because she needed my cooperation and because neither of us could expose the truth without implicating ourselves."

Naomi placed Daniel under formal caution but did not arrest him immediately. The archive transfer still required witnesses, and the tunnels remained unsecured.

Thomas explained how he survived. After finding the grave, he contacted Rose. Before they could meet, men from Harrow Legal Logistics intercepted him. He escaped into the lower tunnels and discovered old maintenance rooms stocked with emergency supplies. Rose sent instructions through coded apartment work orders, helping him remain hidden while he recorded Eleanor's operation.

"Why not go to federal authorities?" Evelyn asked.

"Because the first agent Rose contacted appeared in one of the Lantern files. We did not know where the network ended."

Thomas had watched Mark and Eleanor enter Cedar Ridge repeatedly. Mark believed they were searching for mineral surveys. Eleanor knew the truth. She used Meridian to recruit former Harrow employees, steal the deed, and assemble enough keys to seize the archive.

"Where is the deed now?" Naomi asked.

Thomas looked at the central glass cylinder. "Not where Eleanor thinks. Rose replaced the legal original with a decoy before she died. The missing document contains false coordinates. Anyone following it reaches the purge chamber."

That explained why Eleanor needed Evelyn to activate the final room. She had the deed but not the true map.

"Then where is the real deed?" Evelyn asked.

"Rose divided it. The signature page is hidden in the place Mark would never allow you to go. The legal description is with someone Eleanor believes she owns. The seal is already in your possession."

Evelyn thought of the storage room, her mother's funeral, and the properties listed in Rose's letter. The place Mark would never allow her to go could be Rose's stone house. After their marriage, he discouraged every visit, saying the house made Evelyn depressed.

The person Eleanor believed she owned might be Mark.

The seal already in Evelyn's possession was less obvious.

Naomi interrupted. Cameras showed movement in the upper tunnel. Eleanor was escaping with two armed men and a metal case. The tactical team divided to pursue them.

The central console began transferring the archive index to public escrow, but progress froze at twelve percent.

A system warning appeared: LAND AUTHORITY UNVERIFIED. ORIGINAL DEED REQUIRED.

Without the true Cedar Ridge deed, Rose's public-release safeguard could not complete.

Thomas led them through a narrow passage to the purge chamber. They found Mark receiving medical treatment and demanding immunity. When he saw Evelyn, shame passed across his face, followed quickly by self-pity.

"I did not know she would kidnap me," he said.

"You knew she forged my signature."

"I thought the land would save the company."

"And when I begged to attend my mother's funeral?"

Mark looked away. "Eleanor said the transfer had to clear before you spoke to Daniel."

He had chosen money with full knowledge of Evelyn's grief. No hidden network made that choice for him.

Naomi asked about the true legal description. Mark first denied knowing anything, then requested protection. He claimed Eleanor forced him to memorize a series of parcel coordinates because she feared carrying written evidence. He would provide them only if prosecutors reduced the assault and fraud charges.

Evelyn listened without interrupting.

Then she opened Rose's folder and removed the loan documents.

"You owe the estate twelve million dollars," she said. "Your company is frozen. Your houses are collateral. You have no leverage."

"I have the coordinates."

"Thomas knows the tunnels. Daniel knows the contracts. Naomi has your filing. I do not need your bargain."

Mark's fear became anger. "You would let everything we built disappear?"

"You built it with my mother's money and my stolen name."

He leaned toward her. "Then you should know what Eleanor told me about the stone house. Rose kept a room there with records about you. Medical records. Adoption papers."

Evelyn's heartbeat slowed.

"I was not adopted."
