Chapter 6 - The Family Discovers the Consequences

The first day went badly for the Miller family.
Their interior cabins were on a lower deck and separated by several hallways. Robert argued with guest services for nearly an hour, insisting that the balcony rooms had been guaranteed.
The staff showed him the updated reservation.
He demanded to see Millie.
They refused to disclose her room number.
Vanessa tried to enter the spa, but her wristband was declined.
Her boyfriend could not access the premium lounge.
Millie’s mother arrived at the photography desk and discovered the family portrait session had been canceled.
At lunch, they attempted to enter the exclusive restaurant. The host directed them toward the main buffet.
Vanessa called Millie repeatedly.
Finally, Millie answered.
“You need to reactivate everything,” Vanessa said.
“No.”
“People are staring at us.”
“They’re probably looking at the line behind you.”
“This isn’t funny.”
“I’m not laughing.”
Vanessa lowered her voice.
“Mom is devastated.”
“Mom helped you exclude me.”
“She didn’t want conflict.”
“She was willing to avoid conflict by sacrificing me.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
Millie looked across her private balcony at the endless ocean.
“Did you write that I should be grateful you allowed me to come?”
Silence.
“Did you write that at least my card was useful?”
“I was angry.”
“At what?”
Vanessa had no answer.
“You still have time to apologize,” Millie said.
“Fine. I’m sorry you saw the messages.”
May you like
“That isn’t an apology.”
Millie ended the call.
