Chapter 7: The Hotel That Learned to Stand
David was dismissed.
An investigation revealed years of buried complaints from hotel staff. Employees had been insulted, threatened, and silenced to protect wealthy guests.
Richard publicly apologized.
Clara asked for new policies: better wages, stronger protection for staff, and immediate action against any guest who abused workers.
Some board members resisted.
“She is too emotional,” one of them said during a meeting. “She does not understand business.”
Clara looked around the table.
“I understand business perfectly,” she replied. “A hotel built on fear is already failing. You just haven’t seen the cost yet.”
One by one, the room fell silent.
Weeks later, evidence connected Victoria to old payments from Charles Whitmore. Several former board members were investigated. The stolen history of Evelyn Rose Whitmore was finally brought into the light.
Madison moved out of her mother’s house and sent Clara a letter. She did not ask to be forgiven. She only admitted she had been cruel and promised to become someone different.
Clara folded the letter and placed it inside Rose Miller’s old wooden box.
