Chapter 11 - The Camera at Boathouse Three

Divers entered Lake Ardent before sunset.
The old dock had been closed to guests while Dana Ruiz obtained authorization to search boathouse three and the surrounding water.
Eleanor watched from the shoreline with Jonah and Theo.
Caleb, Maya, and Vivian had been moved to separate conference rooms for questioning.
Nathan had already provided the courthouse escrow key and a statement describing the false will.
“What do you think they’ll find?” Jonah asked.
“Whatever Dad believed was too dangerous to leave on land.”
A diver surfaced beside the dock.
He raised one hand.
A waterproof metal container was secured beneath a support beam several feet below the surface.
Inside were copies of bank records, audio recordings, and a sealed drive.
The records confirmed every entry in the red ledger.
The audio files were worse.
In one recording, Vivian argued with Harold in room 614.
“You gave Eleanor control of the trust,” she said.
“She created the trust.”
“She created nothing without this family.”
“She saved the company.”
“Then she can save it again.”
“No.”
“You will make her sign.”
“I will not.”
“You always choose her.”
“I chose silence. That was the mistake.”
A chair scraped across the floor.
Vivian’s voice dropped.
“If Caleb loses the company, he will tell Eleanor what happened to Rebecca.”
The recording ended.
Eleanor replayed the final sentence.
Rebecca.
The name belonged to her birth mother, a woman Eleanor had been told abandoned the family when she was three.
Harold had always refused to discuss her.
Vivian claimed Rebecca left the country with another man and never tried to contact Eleanor again.
“What happened to Rebecca?” Eleanor asked.
Jonah had no answer.
Dana approached from the boathouse carrying an evidence bag.
“We opened the sealed drive,” she said. “It contains records from Vale House and Grayhaven, but there’s another directory protected by Lattice North encryption.”
“Can you identify who created it?”
“The metadata lists Adrian Morrow.”
Eleanor looked toward the eastern road.
“He met Vivian here.”
“We know. Resort footage confirms it.”
“Have you located him?”
“His car was abandoned outside Spokane. His phone is off.”
Jonah swore quietly.
Dana continued.
“We also recovered communication between Adrian and Caleb.”
“About the trust transfer?”
“And the video.”
She showed Eleanor a printed message.
Adrian had instructed Caleb to create a public scandal before the Meridian closing.
If Eleanor reacted violently or appeared unstable, Adrian planned to invoke an internal leadership clause and delay the sale.
During the delay, he would challenge Eleanor’s voting authority using Vivian’s claim that early family assets had funded Lattice North.
“He wanted control of the company,” Jonah said.
“Or time to remove something from it,” Eleanor replied.
Dana nodded.
“We believe the trust money financed a separate operation. Several payments went to a private intelligence firm.”
“What were they investigating?”
“You.”
Eleanor read the invoices.
The firm had monitored her travel, business meetings, medical records, and private communications for nearly four years.
Adrian had not simply betrayed her financially.
He had studied her.
Theo approached from the dock carrying a small plastic evidence sleeve.
“One of the divers found this inside the container.”
It contained an old photograph.
Harold stood beside Rebecca near Lake Ardent.
Rebecca was holding a baby.
On the back, Harold had written a date.
The date was two years after Vivian claimed Rebecca had disappeared.

Beneath it was another sentence.
Eleanor must never believe her mother abandoned her.
