The Seat on the Bus
“Did you just say… that seat is for your leg?”
The entire bus fell silent.
Nolan Briggs — the young man who had been occupying two priority seats with his backpack and his stretched-out leg — froze when a man in a Metro Transit uniform stepped onto the bus.
The elderly woman, Evelyn Carter, was still standing shakily in front of the blue seats, both hands gripping her wooden cane. Just a few minutes earlier, she had only asked gently if she could sit down. But Nolan had mocked her in front of everyone.
Then the man in uniform called him by name.
“Nolan Briggs.”
Nolan’s face turned pale.
