The Mother Who Was Pushed Down the Mansion Staircase
OPENING CLIMAX
Evelyn Parker only heard the sound of heels behind her.
She turned her head.
Victoria Lane stood one step above her on the staircase, her beautiful face as cold as porcelain. Her champagne silk dress shimmered beneath the chandelier, completely contrasting with Evelyn’s fragile figure — an elderly mother with white hair, her hands still trembling after climbing the long staircase inside her son’s grand mansion.
“You don’t love Alexander,” Evelyn said softly. “You only love what he has.”
In that instant, the fake gentleness on Victoria’s face shattered.
She stepped forward.
“You’re old,” Victoria hissed. “You should have learned to stay silent.”
Before Evelyn could react, Victoria’s hands pressed hard against her shoulders.
A sudden push.
The small bag in Evelyn’s hand fell. She tried to grab the railing, but her fingers slipped from the polished wood. Her body lost balance, her eyes widening in terror.
Her cry echoed through the empty grand hall.
Victoria stood frozen on the staircase, her hands still stretched out in front of her. She breathed heavily, then immediately looked around, making sure no one had seen anything.
At the bottom of the stairs, Evelyn lay on the cold marble floor, her eyes closed, one hand still trembling slightly.
The front doors burst open.
Alexander Reed rushed in.
The man who had once made the entire financial world bow its head now stood frozen like a lost child. His expensive black suit was disheveled, his face pale as he saw his mother lying at the foot of the staircase.
“Mother…”
He ran to her and knelt beside her.
“Mom, please open your eyes. Look at me…”
Victoria hurried down the stairs, tears instantly falling as if she had prepared them in advance.
“Alexander! I don’t know what happened. She slipped. I was about to help her, but…”
Alexander lifted his head.
His eyes turned red.
“You’re saying my mother fell by herself?”
Victoria nodded again and again.
“I swear. I swear I didn’t do anything.”
At that moment, the head of security entered the grand hall. He held a tablet, his expression heavy.
“Sir…”
Alexander turned sharply.
“Have you called an ambulance?”
“Yes, sir,” the guard replied. Then he glanced at Victoria and lowered his voice. “But you need to see this first.”
Victoria stiffened.
Alexander looked at the tablet.
On the screen was footage from the staircase camera.
Evelyn turned away to leave.
Victoria stepped forward.
Both hands pushed straight into Evelyn’s shoulders.
There was no explanation left.
No tears could hide the truth anymore.
Alexander slowly stood up.
Victoria stepped back.
“Alexander… please listen to me…”
He looked at her with an expression she had never seen before. It was not only anger. It was not only heartbreak. It was the late awakening of a man who had just realized he had allowed someone to hurt the most important person in his life.
“Get out of my house.”
Victoria shook her head.
“No… you can’t treat me like this. We’re about to get engaged.”
Alexander spoke each word clearly.
“You just pushed my mother down the stairs.”
Victoria burst into tears and tried to grab his hand.
“I only lost control. She insulted me first. She’s always interfering in our relationship. She hates me!”
Alexander pulled his hand away.
“The one who hates my mother is you. And the fool who believed you… was me.”

The ambulance siren echoed outside the mansion gate.
But to Alexander, that sound was not as terrifying as the sound of his own heart breaking from regret.
