Chapter 4 - The Truth on the Screen
Adrian had watched part of the confrontation from his car.
The security system sent an alert when Victoria entered Elena’s room without permission. At first, he assumed there was an innocent explanation.
Then he watched her place the Rolex inside the handbag.
He returned to the mansion immediately.
By the time he entered the living room, Elena was on the floor and Victoria was accusing her of theft.
Adrian felt something inside him break.
For years, he had ignored signs of Victoria’s cruelty. He had excused her behavior as stress, insecurity, or the result of growing up in a competitive family.
But there was no explanation for what he had seen.
Only a decision.
Victoria had chosen to destroy an innocent woman.
After Adrian played the recording, the party turned against her.
Guests whispered. Phones appeared. Several people who had remained silent during Elena’s humiliation suddenly expressed outrage.
Victoria pointed at the screen.
“This is not what it looks like.”
Adrian’s face remained expressionless.
“You entered Elena’s room.”
“I was checking something.”
“You opened her bag.”
“I thought it belonged to me.”
“You placed the watch inside.”
Victoria looked at Elena.
“She has been manipulating you since she arrived.”
Elena stood beside Sophie, one hand pressed to her cheek.
“I have never asked your husband for anything.”
“That is your strategy,” Victoria snapped. “You pretend to be humble so everyone will protect you.”
Sophie stepped in front of Elena.
“She protects me.”
The room became silent again.
Victoria stared at the child.
“You do not understand what is happening.”
“I understand that you lied.”
Adrian handed his phone to the head of security.
“Save copies of every recording.”
Victoria’s panic became anger.
“You cannot throw me out of my own home.”
“The mansion is owned by the Vale family trust.”
“I am your wife.”
“That does not give you permission to assault an employee and frame her for a crime.”
Victoria lowered her voice.
“Adrian, think about how this will look.”
He glanced at Elena, then at the guests who had watched her fall.
“For once, I am thinking about what actually happened instead of how it looks.”
He asked Victoria to apologize.
She refused.
Her pride would not allow it.
“I will not apologize to a servant.”
Adrian turned to security.
“Escort Mrs. Vale to the guest residence. She is not to enter the main house again.”
Two guards approached.
Victoria backed away.
“You will regret this.”
“No,” Adrian said. “I regret not seeing you clearly sooner.”
Victoria was escorted from the living room while the guests watched in stunned silence.
Elena picked up her handbag and began placing her belongings inside.
Adrian approached her carefully.
“I am sorry.”
Elena did not look at him.
“You did not strike me.”
“But I created an environment where she believed she could do this and face no consequences.”
He was right, but Elena was too shaken to discuss responsibility.
“I want to leave.”
“Of course.”
“I also want the recordings.”
“You will have them.”
“And I want to speak to the police.”
Adrian nodded.
“I will support whatever decision you make.”
Some of the guests looked surprised.
They had expected the billionaire to protect his reputation.
Instead, he called the police himself.
Victoria was questioned that night. The recording showed the planted evidence clearly, while multiple witnesses confirmed that she had struck and shoved Elena.
The police charged her with assault, false reporting, and attempting to frame Elena for theft.
Daniel later provided evidence that Victoria had taken the watch from the family trust without permission.
The scandal grew larger with each discovery.
Her investment accounts revealed missing money. Several charities discovered that donations she had publicly promised were never transferred. Former employees came forward with stories of intimidation and unpaid wages.
The perfect life Victoria had displayed to the world collapsed in less than a week.
But Elena did not celebrate.
She left the mansion with her suitcase and returned to her mother’s small apartment.
For several days, she refused calls from reporters, attorneys, and strangers offering money for interviews.
